Nyborg Distillery Becomes Denmark’s First Distillery to Max the Cube

Nyborg Distillery has become the first distillery in Denmark to take advantage of Thistle Systems’ expertise and experience in developing and installing turnkey maturation cask racking solutions designed to maximise capacity, increase safety and improve manual handling.

Working closely with Nicolai Rømer and the Nyborg team, Thistle Systems has used their Max the Cube approach to design and install a solution that more than doubles their existing capacity in the same area by using every available inch of floor space.

The bespoke solution allows Nyborg to store 4 different sizes of casks and also capitalise on the locomotive train which forms a core feature of the distillery’s visitor experience, reflecting the site’s history as a former train station.

Working with site drawings and photographs, Thistle Systems was able to develop CAD drawings of the proposed MaxiCaskRack layout which were then brought to life with 3D visuals to enable the Nyborg team to visualise the impact on space.

“We are delighted to have completed this latest cask racking installation at the prestigious new Macallan site with what is now our 11th generation of our Maxi Cask Racking.”

About The Distillery

For 125 years, the buildings that today house Nyborg Distillery was a workshop for the State Railways’ freight trains. Here, in the heart of the kingdom of Denmark, stalwart men kept Denmark running.

When the Storebælt Bridge opened, the workshop closed all 4,000 m2. And for over 13 years, everything stood still – and fell away.

Until 2017, the workshops were like a lifeless colossus, separating Knudshovedkvarteret from the rest of Nyborg city. However, Nicolai and Niels Rømer set out to change that sometime in 2011.

Today, the area stands as one of Nyborg’s most sought-after.
